Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Charles B. Simone, II, FASTRO, FACRO is a Research Professor and the Chief Medical Officer of the New York Proton Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in proton therapy, reirradiation, stereotactic body radiation therapy using both proton and conventional photon therapies, and innovative clinical trial strategies in thoracic oncology. Dr. Simone is a Full Member in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Prior to coming to the New York Proton Center, Dr. Simone was Chief of Thoracic Oncology at University of Pennsylvania, Director of the Penn Mesothelioma and Pleural Program, and Director of Clinical Research and Operations in Radiation Oncology at Penn. He was then Medical Director of Maryland Proton Treatment Center, Chair of the Clinical Research Committee for Maryland’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, proton Fellowship Director, and Stereotactic Radiation Therapy Program Director.
Dr. Simone is a National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and Department of Defense funded investigator who has published >715 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and given >700 scientific lectures to national and international audiences. He is also the national Principal Investigator or Co-Chair of 12 NIH-funded cooperative group trials.
Dr. Simone is recognized by The Leading Physicians of the World, Castle Connolly Top Doctors, America’s Best Doctors, Expertscape World Expert in Oncology and Lung Neoplasms, Crain’s New York’s Notable in Healthcare, New York Super Doctors, and numerous others.
