New York Proton Center Announces Availability of PLUVICTO® Radioligand Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer
Introduction of PLUVICTO marks launch of theranostics program, a significant expansion of the Center’s advanced cancer treatment capabilities.
NEW YORK, NY — October 30, 2026 — The New York Proton Center (NYPC) has announced the launch of its theranostics program, beginning with the availability of PLUVICTO® (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan), a treatment for select patients with metastatic prostate cancer.
The theranostics program represents an important milestone in NYPC’s continued evolution as a center for advanced cancer treatment, expanding its capabilities beyond proton radiation therapy to include innovative systemic therapies that deliver radiation directly to cancer cells.
Theranostics is an emerging approach to precision cancer care that combines advanced molecular imaging with targeted treatment. By identifying specific characteristics of a patient’s cancer, physicians can select therapies designed to target those cancer cells more precisely.
PLUVICTO works by targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a protein commonly expressed on prostate cancer cells. Administered intravenously, the therapy delivers a radioactive molecule that binds to PSMA-expressing cells, allowing radiation to reach cancer throughout the body while helping to limit exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
“Launching our theranostics program, beginning with PLUVICTO, is an exciting next step in our commitment to expanding access to innovative cancer care,” said Christopher Panczner, CEO of the New York Proton Center. “Building on our expertise in advanced radiation treatment with proton therapy, we are broadening the therapies available to patients and strengthening our ability to deliver comprehensive, personalized cancer care. This program reflects our continued investment in technologies and treatments that can make a meaningful difference for patients.”
PLUVICTO is FDA-approved for certain adults with PSMA-positive metastatic prostate cancer, including eligible patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive disease and those whose cancer continues to progress despite hormone therapy. Appropriate candidates are identified through clinical evaluation and specialized imaging, which helps physicians determine whether their cancer expresses PSMA.
“Theranostics represents an exciting evolution in how we approach cancer treatment, bringing together precision imaging and targeted radiation therapy,” said Arpit Chhabra, MD, radiation oncologist and lead for theranostics program at the New York Proton Center. “With PLUVICTO, we can deliver radiation directly to PSMA-expressing cancer cells throughout the body, offering an additional treatment option for appropriately selected patients with advanced prostate cancer. The launch of this program also establishes an important foundation for expanding theranostic treatment options at NYPC as the field continues to evolve.”
Through this new program, NYPC will work collaboratively with referring medical oncologists, urologists, and multidisciplinary cancer care teams to evaluate patients, coordinate treatment, and integrate radioligand therapy into individualized care plans.
